MERIDIAN KIOSKS INSTALLED AT THE 9/11 MEMORIAL PREVIEW SITE

The National September 11 Memorial & Museum come together to show remembrance for those who died on September 11, 2001. The National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center recently asked Meridian Kiosks to build kiosks for their 9/11 Memorial Preview Site. Meridian fulfilled the task by supplying their Plynth Classic Kiosks. According to Chris Gilder, Chairman for Meridian Kiosks, who visited the site last month, “The Preview Site was beautifully done and really gave you a sense of what people in New York City went through, it was a very emotional experience.” Chris also sent a live photo of Ground Zero from one of the kiosks to fellow Meridian staff. The 9/11 Memorial Preview Site was created to allow the public to see the plans for and progress of the 9/11 Memorial and Museum under construction at the World Trade Center site and to provide visitors with the opportunity to contribute to the project. The purpose of the kiosks is to inform visitors about day to day progress of the construction at the World Trade Center site and to access images and artifacts from the Museum’s collection. The kiosks also provide a way for visitors to pledge to volunteer in remembrance of 9/11 and to learn about contributing memories and objects to the Museum. Sean Anderson, Director of Information Technology for the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, stated that, “The National September 11 Memorial & Museum selected Meridian Kiosks for use in its new Preview Site located by the World Trade Center. The kiosks are being used to display information about the Memorial and Museum and its growing collection of 9/11 artifacts, as well as showcase real-time images of the Ground Zero construction, among other services.” Meridian built five kiosks for the Preview Site. They shipped out at the end of July and were ready for use when the Preview Site opened August 26, 2009. In its first month of operation, the Preview Site has received more than 100,000 visitors. The Plynth Classic is specifically designed to take minimal space and to help with interactive information, retail applications, advertising, and directory services. It features an ultra-slim look with a seventeen inch display, an ELO surface acoustic wave touch screen, and is designed for 24/7 operation. In speaking of the kiosk’s design, Anderson said, “It’s sleek and user-friendly design enables visitor interaction and makes the most of the space we had available in the Preview Site.” The National September 11 Memorial and Museum is the not-for-profit corporation created to realize the 9/11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center site. The organization is responsible for raising funds and overseeing the design for the project and will program and operate the Memorial & Museum located on eight of the sixteen acres of the site.
