Meridian Kiosks is Going to the Birds!
The Cornell Lab of Ornithology Again Enlists Meridian to Build Kiosks for Unique Application.
There are over two thousand different species of birds in North America with nine hundred and twenty five being spotted within the United States. With the help of Meridian Kiosks, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology has found a way for the average person to learn more about these different types of bird species as soon as the bird is seen.
When Cornell University first came to Meridian Kiosks in 2005, their idea was simple. Create a kiosk where one can input a description of a bird and find out the who, what, where, when, and how details of that exact bird. Meridian Kiosks built Cornell a Monarch kiosk to house in the Stuart Observatory. Since then, Meridian has built and shipped various kiosks for Cornell.
These kiosks have been shipped to different National Wildlife Refuges throughout the United States. Of the kiosks built, many were Monarchs, shipped to places such as the Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge in Decatur, Alabama; the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge in Sanibel, Florida; and the Horicon National Wildlife Refuge/US Fish and Wildlife Refuge Headquarters in Mayville, Wisconsin, among others. Meridian Kiosks also built a Compact Dual Kiosk, which shipped to the Cornell University Quinta Mazatlan X World Birding Center in McAllen, Texas.
In June of 2009, Meridian Kiosks sent their Tavalo Lite all-in-one kiosk to the Cornell Lab in Ithaca, New York. The Tavalo was used for a demonstration at the US Fish and Wildlife Services Conference. The USFWS was able to showcase all of their applications and functions available through the kiosks.
Currently, Meridian Kiosks is working on their Titan Outdoor Kiosk for the EB Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge in Oceanville, New Jersey.
The Monarch is Meridian Kiosks’ signature design. It combines stylish appeal, flexibility, and durability. The Monarch comes with the option for a 15”, 17”, and 19” LCD or LCD touch screen with an optional dual screen. The Compact is Meridian’s most popular sit down model. Cornell’s particular model included a dual screen, one 17” Industrial LCD Non Touch Monitor and one 17” ELO touch LCD. The Compact is available in many different configurations to fit multiple environments. One of Meridians newest kiosks is the Titan. The Titan is designed for full outdoor use in any weather and can deliver self service solutions in any environment. It is designed to be safe, reliable, and easy to use.
The Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s purpose is to use the best science and technology to solve critical problems facing wildlife. Their mission is to interpret and conserve the earth’s biological diversity through research, education, and citizen science focused on birds.
